Exploring a Family Medicine Career?

Family Medicine Interest Groups provide many educational and networking opportunities for students interested in exploring the rewarding specialty of family medicine. There are 17 FMIGs in Canada, one at each medical school. FMIGs are run by medical students, for medical students, and offer programs such as:

  • Speakers’ series
  • Clinical skills workshops
  • Mentorship programs
  • Advocacy initiatives

Joining the FMIG at Dalhousie University is an excellent way to get involved in the family medicine community. Please email for the latest information about upcoming events, ongoing projects, and more!

If you are involved in an FMIG, take the next, easy step and join the NSCFP! As a student, your membership is free, and it connects you to the dynamic and growing community of family medicine doctors, both within Nova Scotia and across Canada.

By joining NSCFP and CFPC, you automatically become a member of the CFPC Section of Medical Students. Student members contribute significantly to CFPC’s activities and policy development. And the College helps to support medical students through FMIGs and many other services and programs.

To find out more about the opportunities and benefits available, visit CFPC’s “For Medical Students” page and see the NSCFP Membership page.
